2nd week

This last week was a week of adjustments for me. Overall though I feel as if those adjustments were a natural part of getting assimilated to a new culture and way of life. I’m not claiming to be an expert on Indian culture by any means, but I feel more comfortable with my surroundings now that I’ve been here for a week. Looking forward to this next week I hope to see the Mumbai in a different light now that I have more of an understanding of it.

Today we visited P&G and that was another cool site visit. We talked to Kapil Sharma, an Associate Director of Marketing Strategy and Development in India. He gave some interesting insights, and talked a lot about their distribution channels and how they utilize them to further penetrate the Indian market. This Wednesday we have a market entry presentation for Glitch centered around an entry strategy for the male grooming market. The market is very small in India and we have been working in groups to find creative ways to enter the market. Depending on if everything works out, we may go to visit Bollywood tomorrow, and they may be shooting a scene for a movie. We have more free time during this week and I hope to get out and see a little more of the city on my own.

My name is Charlie Bell, and I am a business major currently pursuing a marketing concentration. My program while on this DOC is Marketing in Asia. I grew up in Wells, Maine - a small coastal town in southern Maine. Like most college students, the appeal of studying abroad for me is in the opportunity it provides to experience a different culture while gaining credits at the same time. More specifically, I was drawn to this particular dialogue for the valuable experiences it will provide for me to use in both my everyday life, and in my business career for many years to come. I believe we are all shaped by the environment in which we are raised in, and I am looking forward to having my own personal views tested as I learn about a culture and society far different than my own.
