HAVANA, Cuba — Cuba’s state-run record company Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales, or EGREM, has been struggling for years to preserve its historic studios and archives. But with outdated equipment and limited resources, engineers and recording executives often feel as though they’re losing the battle. While a recent deal with Sony has helped, the famed home of the Buena Vista Social Club is seeking new ways to bring its music to the world. Cubans want others to know that music is at the core of who they are.
