Technology in Goldsmiths

The 21st century is so convenient. My iPhone is compatible with basically any sim card that I pop in, in every country I visit. It’s so easy to stay connected these days. There’s a carrier here in the UK called “3” that I’m obsessed with because not only are their data plans completely affordable, they also have free roaming data in like over 40 countries in Europe and around the world. Did someone say weekend trips across Europe? I’m currently on a pay as you go plan paying GBP 25 per month for unlimited data but I might drop down to the 12GB option since who uses that much data anyway?

Being at a major university I feel like the technology available is pretty equitable to what we have at Northeastern. I have access to the internet, computer labs, printers, etc. The wifi here is also a part of Eduroam system, which lets you log into the wifi at any Eduroam affiliated school, which I think is almost every school in the UK. Is anyone else old enough to remember when NEU made us bring our own ethernet cables to our freshman dorms? Haha those were the days!

As a part of the music program here, I also have access to multiple music studios with tons of digital and analog audio equipment, top of the line sound systems, and just about every music production software that I’ve ever heard of and more. It’s a shame that they can’t offer me a discounted price on some of the software though. But it’s so easily accessible, that’s not even an issue at all. I feel so fortunate to be able to have such high quality facilities both here and at home and will do my best to take advantage of them while I can!
