Tips and Secrets in London
Some good safety tips and secrets that I’ve learned while traveling around London mostly come from my commute to class and fun weekend adventures.
The first thing is to always be early for any long distance train or bus. This may seem like a no-brainer but you never know what’s going to go wrong and how long it’ll take to fix it.
On the underground train system its good to go all the way to the end where the front of the train will be. People tend to crowd around the stairs where they just came from. There’s way less people down in the front because people usually wont take the time to walk all the way down.
Another seemingly obvious one is to travel in pairs and leave with the same people you came with.
Also, while here I’ve been catcalled and hit on- I learned that if someone comes up to you on the street at night and asks where you’re going or how you’re doing its good and ok to just say “I’m going home (or to a different party or bar) and I’m not really interested in being with anyone but my friends tonight.” In my experience in London there hasn’t been a guy or group of men yet that haven’t just said “Ok, have a good night” and walked off. I know that may be an anomaly, but that’s also why it’s good to be in pairs or more anyway, just in case things didn’t go that well.
