Tokyo, Japan: Daily Life in Japan

Here’s a typical weekday for me in Japan:

7:30am-7:45am: Good morning. I usually wake up around this time.
7:45am-8:30am: I get ready to face the day, like, brushing my teeth, getting dressed, etc.
8:30am-8:50am: I go to the basement floor of the hotel and have my breakfast. They usually serve the same sorts of food every day, so it’s been getting a little tiring. It’s a buffet style the serves Japanese style breakfast, and there’s also your western toast. I’ve been trying to mix up what I’ve been eating since lately I haven’t had much of an appetite.
8:50am-9:00am: I leave the hotel and walk to Yushima train station.
9:00am-9:30am: From there we take the Chiyoda line at Yushima Station to the last station Yoyogi Uehara. That is 13 stops. Although we miss the major rush hour, it is still a bit packed. There is even a women’s only car on each train, which is nice because it does get a little uncomfortable being skin and skin with one another. The Chiyoda line usually has trains come every two minutes at Yushima station, so you’re not waiting too long for a train to come.
9:30am-9:45am: From Yoyogi Uehara station, we transfer to the Odakyu line and take the express train to Seijo Gakuen Mae station. The express train is only two stops, versus the local train which is about 12 stops if I remember correctly. So, it’s worth waiting for an express train rather than hopping onto a local train, even if it comes earlier. There’s also a rapid express train, which doesn’t go to the stop I need to get off at. You kind of need to be alert on which train you’re getting onto. It was a little confusing at first, but I think I got the hang of it.
9:45am-10:00am: From Seijo Gakuen Mae station, it’s about a 5 minute walk to the university.
10:00am-1:00pm: We have Japanese class for three hours… With five minute breaks every hour. It can get a bit tiring just being in class that long. Although it does help that there is a lot of pair work in which we practice grammar points we learn.
1:00pm-2:00pm: An hour break for lunch. I’ve been going to the school’s cafeteria. The meals are less than $5—delicious and filling. I’ve been getting the omurice (omelet rice) at the cafeteria.
2:00pm-3:00pm: We have an hour long conversation session with the university students. Sometimes, these can run over a little longer than an hour.
3:00pm-6:00pm: We sometimes have other places to visit after class. If there’s nothing on the schedule, then the rest of the day is free.
6:00pm: I usually eat dinner around this time. Most times, I just eat out, either with classmates or by myself. If I get lazy, or don’t have much of an appetite, I opt for getting food at the convenience store.
8:00pm-10:00pm: I do homework, if I have some.
10:00pm-11:00pm: If I don’t pass out by now, I usually just browse the web, or catch up on some shows.
11:45pm: Hopefully, I go to bed no later than this, so that I can get my nice 8 hours of sleep (it’s 12am as I am writing this, oops…). Good night.
