Travel Tips for Chile

Being a blonde American, I certainly stand out in Chile, a country with mostly dark haired people. This means I garner a bit of attention. Usually it is nothing malevolent, but just something to be mindful of. It certainly means walking with people at night especially or when going out or walking home.

Another tip would be to wear your purse or bag in front of you because it makes it hard for people to pickpocket from you or to take it at all — especially on the busses!

Always have exact change for the busses because they sometimes won’t give you the right change or any change.

Keep the little bus receipts that the driver gives you. They are tiny pieces of paper and you might be tempted to crumple it up and cast it aside but, local traveler secret, don’t do this. There are inspectors that come on and check to make sure everyone has their receipt and fine people a lot of money if they don’t! Always keep it with you!
