Record Turnout at Dialogue of Civilizations Fair

Breaking all previous attendance records, the Global Experience Office (GEO) attracted a huge crowd to the Curry Student Center Indoor Quad for the Dialogue of Civilizations fair on Wednesday, October 21^st. Nearly 700 students attended the fair to speak with Northeastern faculty members leading the 58 Dialogue programs in 2016.

Marta Gryb (CAMD ’19), a first-year student studying communication studies, felt that the Dialogue of Civilizations fair was really beneficial: “It was nice to hear opinions from other students who have recently been on Dialogues,” she said.

Dialogues are faculty-led programs, offered during the summer, that focus on critical issues facing students and their peers at both the local and global levels. According to Garrett Margliotti, Senior Associate Director of Advising and Program Administration for GEO, “the Dialogue of Civilizations programs are flagship faculty-led programming.  These programs allow our faculty to teach their subject matter on-site, giving students unique experiences unlike those found in a classroom.  The fair showcased the myriad of programming options that GEO is offering across all continents in 2016.” Programs ranging from foreign languages to engineering are offered around the globe, providing students with the opportunity to engage with cultures from Western Europe to Sub-Saharan Africa. Students can study filmmaking and fashion in London, social enterprise in India, photography in Italy, architecture in China, or social entrepreneurship in the Caribbean – the possibilities are endless.
