5 PARISian tips
Whenever my friends ask me for a travel advice I try to tailor the list to their personality. Some absolutely adore art, others can’t spend more than an hour in a museum and anything beyond that consider to be a waste of time. Since it is impossible to predict the particular preferences of my reader, I tried to come up with a few universal PARISian travel tips.
Pick a great and a very-very comfortable pair of shoes just like you would if you went hiking. When in Paris, I walk 10km (approx. 6.2 miles) per day on average, on the days when I go sightseeing the average goes up to 21km. Paris is a city of walking. I believe, I have mentioned before that I almost always chose to walk to my university or other sights whenever I had enough time on my hands.
Act like a local. Or at least a little bit. I will write about my relationship with French language later but I want to mention here that your Parisian experience won’t be nearly as wonderful if you choose to reserve to English language only. If you have no desire to learn French whatsoever, at least remember to ask “Parlez-vous anglais ?” you will automatically gain some likeableness points 😉
Rent a bicycle. Explore Paris on a bike. It is so easy to do and it certainly will be a great addition to your list of unforgettable experiences. You can find more at www.velib.paris/
Identify strategically important food options. Cheap, local and very tasty. Crepes? Certainly at Creperie Genia . World famous? L’As du Fallafel, that’s the best in Paris (definitely) and Lenny Kravitz approved falafel place (it is better to get a take out and enjoy your falafel sandwich by the river).
Seine is the place to be. A countless number of young Parisians hangs out by the river. Daytime or night, weekday or weekend, with a bottle of wine and some cheese or with a can of coke and a burger, just chatting with a group of friends or skating…Life is always here. River cruise? Don’t recommend, but a walk by the river – certainly.
