A Week in Belgium

Hi everyone! This past week has been extremely busy. My dialogue traveled from France to Belgium, and it was quite the week! Our advisor, Justin, told us that the waffles weren’t that good in Belgium so I had set low expectations. Thankfully, he was very wrong about that. I think I had at least two waffles per day while we were here. When they’re only one euro each, it’s hard to pass up.

One of my favorite parts of the week was going on a chocolate tour! We tried so many different types that I think every single person was in a food coma by the end of it. This was definitely a food-heavy stop. I meant to buy some chocolate but never got the chance which I’m a bit upset about. It probably would’ve melted anyways which is what I try to comfort myself with.

On our day trip to Bruges, I bought a wooden calendar for my mom, I think that’s the weirdest thing I’ve bought so far. Once while we were at a palace one of my classmates bought a sword! I think that’s the coolest thing I’ve seen someone buy. It’s unsharpened so she can bring it back to the USA but I think she might actually sharpen it when we get back, I hope she does!

In terms of interacting with locals, we haven’t had much of a chance to because we move around so often. Once in Germany we went to a karaoke bar and met some guys in the army and it turned out that one of them lived 15 minutes away from me back in Massachusetts which was pretty cool. A couple of my classmates have met friends in different cities as well. It’s fun to meet new people, I think that if we spend more than 5 days in a city I would try harder to make local friends but it’s hard given our time frame.
