Beginning a New Adventure

As I begin to embark on my study abroad to Italy, I have given myself the opportunity to reflect and ask myself, why did I want to study abroad in the first place? I am really intrigued by the idea of visiting foreign countries, and seeing an entirely new culture. Living in America, I only experience a certain type of culture and lifestyle and by expanding my horizons and traveling across the globe to Italy will be an amazing experience to see how other people live outside of America. I hope to come back from this adventure with a new appreciation for Italian culture and become more aware of how things are outside of the US. To achieve these, I believe taking on the role of a student during my time there will really allow me to immerse myself in the day-to-day lifestyle and appreciate all the resources around me. This would allow me to realize what living in Italy is like, and how it compares to living in the US. I am apprehensive about how I will like the area, I am expecting to love the city, but it is a new area I have never been in, and being away from close friends and family will force me to think critically about my decisions and remain cautious while I am living there. With that being said, I am still very much so looking forward to this trip. I’m excited to see the customs and way of life of those living in Italy, as well as to explore new areas that are unique to the country itself.

I'm doing a Traditional Study abroad during summer 2 at the Lorenzo De' Medici school. I'm in the college of science,and graduating in spring 2018. My goals while studying abroad are to experience an extremely different culture from what I am used to, as well as meet a lot of new people from around the world. A fun fact about myself is that I've had 3 pairs of my front two teeth grow naturally. I chose to pursue this program because I want to see what studying is like in other places, and how other communities are in contrast to the one I am from. I really wanted to study abroad so I could experience a new culture in a country I have never visited. I believe my interests of Food, architecture, discovering new spots in cities will appeal to a lot of those around me!
