Cambridge: Housing and Classmates

While studying at Cambridge, I’m housed in a student accommodation about 5 minutes from the main campus. I live in a single room in a house with two shared bathrooms and kitchens. Additionally, each room has its own sink and vanity, which has made getting ready in the morning much less hectic. Each room has a single bed, an armoire, a dresser, a desk, and a bookshelf – they’re quite spacious! We also have “bedders” who come once a week to launder our sheets and towels, which is convenient given our busy schedule. Outside of my accommodation, some students are living in more expensive accommodations within the colleges proper. This means that they are living in rooms built in the fourteenth century!

My classmates are diverse. Most are from the United States, China, and Hong Kong. From the U.S., a large portion is from the University of California system, which organizes special orientations and events for them. I’ve also met a few other Northeastern students that I didn’t know would be coming. To my knowledge before attending, I would be the only Northeastern student. The program is not set up in a way that purposefully facilitates meeting other students, but with various Facebook groups already forming, it’s easy to tap into the social scene. Also, the Porter’s Assistants (think student administrators/volunteers) have organized some events for later on in the program like club nights and cultural events.
