Changing Habits and Helping the Environment
Living in Denmark has drastically changed my transportation habits. Instead of getting on the T or just walking from place to place, I bike everywhere. Each day that I have class, I bike 10km to campus, and 10km back. I live in a town called Bronshoj, which is between DTU and central Copenhagen. It usually takes me about 35 minutes to bike to school, and 25 minutes to bike into the city. It can get tiring to bike all the time, but it’s the easiest way to get around. And since the streets are set up with wide bike lanes, it’s always safe.
If I took public transportation to school, I would need to take 2 buses and 1 metro, all of which would take over an hour. Knowing this, biking to school everyday seems much more reasonable. Also the cost of public transportation adds up quickly, so I generally avoid it. One plus is that the public transportation here is very reliable, and I have never stood around waiting for a bus that never came. Also it’s possible to take your bike on the metro, which is helpful if you want to travel farther distances and still have access to a bike once you’re closer to your final destination.
