The meals I’m eating here are definitely different than what I would eat normally while back at home. I had a structure that my breakfast – dinner eating times were all fairly early and I wouldn’t eat after 7pm. This was thrown out the window since moving here. Things are open later on in the day, which isn’t something I was used to and Italians eat so much later on in the day, so they eat lunch at like 1-4 pm and will start dinner at 8-10pm. This was a huge shock for me considering I like to eat at the times I was used to. There is also a meal which is pre-dinner drinks and small snacks called aperitivo. The portions here are definitely a lot smaller than when I eat out back in the states, and I appreciate that because I prefer to eat smaller portions. The style of eating is definitely different than back home, there is an emphasis on slow eating culture and I appreciate that since I am a pretty slow eater myself, so eating slowly allows me to enjoy the food more. For the most part, I eat at home a lot during the week, sometimes I will go out for food maybe twice a week, but for the most part the food I buy from the grocery store is so fresh I would rather just eat that. The meals are all pretty similar here, but I really enjoyed this pizza I got while I was in the amalfi coast, and my friends and I all ate it while overlooking the sunset, and I had never eaten a pizza that tasted so fresh and good. There is so many great meals and especially amazing gelato, but still a lot to try.
