Housing and Classmates
This year in Delft we were given something not even all Northeastern students get-single rooms! It seems that single rooms are much more popular in the Netherlands and everyone was lucky enough to get their own room. We are all staying in dorms that have non-Northeastern students in them as well and are split between three different buildings. We’re all about a 15-minute bike ride from campus, so everyone is getting their daily exercise in! I’m sharing a kitchen with the rest of my floor, and while it does get a little messy it’s really nice to have the option to make my own food.
A more unique aspect of this program is the people that are participating in it. Not only do we have 27 Northeastern students, but for the first 2 weeks of the program we have 10 students that are joining us through Portland State University. It’s been a great experience to work with them on our projects and have them come on excursions with us. We’re all going to miss them when they leave! Of the Northeastern students that are on this trip, about half are fifth-year Civil Engineers. I’m not part of that group and was slightly worried that I would feel out of the loop for most of the program. Luckily, that has not been the case and the subject matter is something new that we are all learning together. Because we were thrown into group projects right away it’s been really easy to meet other people and make friends.
Until next time, doei!
