An Island Community Tries to Cope
VIDEO PRODUCED BY ELLIE WILLIAMS
CHIOS, Greece – The Greek island of Chios is in dire condition. The number of refugees is nearly triple the island’s recommended capacity, and tents have begun overflowing out of the camp onto beaches. Refugees and migrants seeking asylum have been trapped on the island since the European Union formally closed its borders in March of 2016. Resources are scarce and residents say the conditions are worse than one can imagine.
