LSE – First Impressions
My first reminder that I was in London was as I walked towards the baggage claim and walked into two people. It took me a few seconds to realize that I was walking on the right side of the corridor walkway and not on the left. After correcting my mistake and getting my luggage I headed into the world across the pond. Following the instructions of a London Transport employee I proceeded towards the Tube. It was brand new, air conditioned, and very fast none of which were words that I associated with public transport. After about 40 minutes I got off, found my bus stop and was greeted by the iconic red double-decker bus. I went to the upper deck and sat at the very front which was quite an unusual but amazing experience. It seemed as though we were floating above traffic, in part to the elevation and in part to special bus lanes that regular, lesser vehicles could not enter.
Soon I was at Rosebery Hall where I would be staying for the next two months. I grabbed a quick dinner with a few people I met, and went to bed. The following morning I walked to LSE with Google Maps in my hand, just in time for class registration. The orientation really consisted of a small booklet with some important and useful information and that was mostly it. In the beginning of lecture our professor welcomed us to London and gave a short introduction to LSE. Lastly after lecture was over there were a few meet and greets around campus split by department; I went to the Economics one and got to meet a lot of students and even a couple professors that were there as well. The reception was very inviting and I really look forward to my next two months here!
