Pre-Departure: London, Hansard Scholars

I decided to study abroad, at first, to complete an amazing adventure during my summer break. Also, I wanted to gain experiential learning by studying abroad in London so that I could receive professional and academic experience in a different country as a Hansard Scholar, which I believe to be a very unique opportunity. From my study abroad, I expect it to change the way I approach studying International Relations as I will be taking political science courses in a foreign country at a foreign institution. In addition, I expect to change my perspective on the world as I will be able to embrace and explore an entirely new culture and return home with a life-changing experience. While I aim to go sightseeing, welcome my touristic side, and do well in my classes, my most important goal on study abroad is to truly grasp what it is like to be a local in the city of London. This is my most significant goal because I want to leave this experience with a true understanding of the country, its values, its customs, and its people. As I approach the start of my study abroad, my fears consists of not having enough time to explore the city of London and the rest of nearby European nations and not budgeting my time and money to the best of my ability. While these fears are legitimate, I know with proper planning, discipline, and organization I will not have to worry very much about these abroad. All in all, I most look forward to the unplanned portions of my trip and I can’t wait for it to start!
