Steady Base
While studying abroad here in Viña del Mar, I feel as if I have a very strong support system. Not only through the people that I have here, but also those back in Boston. At the university here in Viña, I have several people that I could turn to with any questions not only about academics, but also recommendations of things to do or places to visit. Everyone at UVM has been very helpful in this regard. Additionally, as I went through ASA, I have an on-site coordinator here in Viña. Her name is Kathleen and she is always just a Whatsapp or text away if I have a question about anything! Both the individuals at UVM and Kathleen through ASA have been very helpful to me answering any of my questions. For instance, the other weekend I was traveling to Mendoza, Argentina and was able to just shoot Kathleen a text asking about border crossing. She was able to tell me exactly what I needed to know and provided some insider tips as well.
My professors here in Viña are all very interesting, however, I would say my most interesting one is my Regional Scenarios in Latin America professor, Alonso. I really enjoy his class because it is always full of thought provoking discussion. Typically, before class he will have us read a portion of an academic journal article on a topic in Latin America and we will spend the class discussing it and relating it to our own personal experiences.
