London is never short of people and you’re always going to be meeting new people here. There are so many colleges if you want to meet college students, companies if you want to meet employers and basically everything if you want to meet anyone from anywhere. I have come across more Europeans here than I did in the US, for obvious reasons. Nonetheless, there are also a lot of Americans here too, as are people of all ethnicities.

At LSE, the easiest way to meet people is to join the Athletics Union (AU). The AU is a very tight knit community and most of the students at LSE are a part of it. You can join any sport and there are a lot of options such as basketball, soccer, fencing, athletics, rugby, pole fitness, etc. You don’t have to be good at the sport and you can play at many different levels. Additionally, AU is more about the social life than it is about the sports. The AU hosts all the major social events at LSE. Every Wednesday all the teams that are a part of the AU come together and party. This tradition is so imbibed in the system that LSE holds almost no classes on Wednesday. The AU also has other events across the year, such as the welcome party, the AU ball or midterm events.

If not the AU, then the residence halls and other societies are also good places to meet people. The LSE Students Union (LSESU) has a lot of societies and they do some really nice stuff. I am a part of the Economics Society, Itchy feet (traveling society) and the microfinance society and I have had a great time in these societies. There are less serious societies too such as tea society or board games society. The residence halls also hold a lot of events with free food and drinks where it is easy to meet people.

Otherwise, it is not too hard to find like-minded people here. I love dice and I collect them. One day I was in a store filled with dice and I got really excited and bought a lot of them. That led to a conversation with the store manager to whom I explained that I collect dice. Turns out, he collected dice too, and I was thrilled to find that since I thought I was the only one who did that. He recommended other places that I should check out to collect dice, showed me his dice collection and even introduced me to other dice collectors. My dice are probably the most interesting products that I’ve bought here, and only in a city like this would you find other people who share such interests. Living in London is very expensive and it is really hard to stick to a budget here, but the dice were also well priced and within my budget which made me very happy. Nonetheless, this is a good time to come here given the depreciation of the pound with Brexit!
