Transportation
Getting to and from class is pretty simple, since I am lucky enough to have a student apartment right in the city center of Florence. I always walk to and from class. The campus is scattered over the city and my two classes are in separate buildings, one 5 minutes away by walking and the other 10 minutes away. I enjoy my walk to and from class since I get to walk through the city and people watch. Public transportation is here, it’s not very helpful to me personally since I walk everywhere because everything is nearby. However, I have taken the bus before to go outside the city and while it is good that there is a bus system and it runs very late, there are some cons. There are no signs for how long until the next bus arrives, which can be annoying at times and also the signs explaining the bus timings were all dated and only relevant in June, not July, which is when I’m here. On the bus rides, the driver doesn’t say what stop we’ve reached, he will come to a stop and open the doors and that is so different than what I’m used to – since train or bus drivers are supposed to recite the name of the stop we are approaching. There is a larger train and bus station in Florence as well, but it is used more for traveling longer distances. I have used it once before, and it was super easy to use, but not something I would be using often. Otherwise, transportation around Florence usually consists of me walking everywhere.
