Travel and Safety Secrets

Although Edinburgh feels like a very safe city, and I have not experienced anything bad yet, I still am careful about my surroundings at all times just because this is a foreign country. I usually only carry cash with me and leave my credit card in my room just because it’d be a huge hassle to have to call my bank and explain the situation to get a new card if it gets stolen. Other than that, there is not much I do especially to stay safe. I keep all my belongings close to me whenever I’m out and I always lock my room door when leaving my apartment for the day. I know foreign cities can be dangerous but I do not think Edinburgh particularly falls into that category.

My program while on this DOC is Field Study of Economic Integration. My biggest study abroad goal is just to become culturally aware of how different everything is in Scotland. I hope to learn lots about the traditions and customs of the locals and just to see how their way of life is. This opportunity is more than just the classroom experience, it is something that I hope will shape me into a more aware and open-minded individual. I chose to study abroad to push myself out of my comfort zone. I live relatively close to Northeastern so I have never really had to adapt to a new environment when I came to college. This experience will hopefully give me the responsibility of adjusting to a new location graphically and culturally.
