Trips from the City
I’ve been on quite a few side trips during my time abroad. 1.One of my favorites though was my recent trip to Vienna and Prague during a week long break that our university had. A few friends and I flew from London to Vienna, caught bus from Vienna to Prague, and then flew back to London from Prague. It’s so easy and cheap to travel around Europe that all three of those tickets combined added up to less than GBP 100.
Vienna is probably one of my favorite cities that I have ever been to. Over the years as a music student, and having grown up in classical music surroundings, I have been greatly exposed to European Classical music and its history, much of which is rooted in Germany and Austria. It was really exciting for me to be able to visit the palace where Mozart had his first performance, to visit the grave of Beethoven and other famous composers, and also to have the opportunity to see the Vienna State Opera live, and for only FOUR EUROS!!!!
Prague was also a really great time! I learnt a lot about Czech history (which btw is extremely grim and violent) and spent a lot of time just chilling in the city. We had some friends who live in Prague because they’re currently on their study abroad semester there so we hung out with them too for a bit. I think my favorite thing about Prague though is the fact that the entire city was so pretty, but also extremely walkable without ever feeling too small or as if there wasn’t much to do.
