Trying Pure Fish Oil

Reykjavik has so many unique restaurants, shops, and museums like the Icelandic Phallological Museum. We took a class trip to the National Museum of Iceland and inside this museum was the history of Iceland from the early Viking settlements to the present day. This museum gave a great overview of the history and how people lived back then with artifacts and displays.

My favorite landmark in the city, though, is the big church at the top of the hill, Hallgrimskirkja. The design of the church is unlike any other house or building in the city, but it is still beautiful to look at. This landmark can be seen from mostly anywhere in the city and even if one drives outside the city to the peninsula above. The view from the top of the church is amazing. If it is a nice, clear day, you can see for miles; the glacier at the end of Snaefellsnes peninsula can be found if you look far out into the ocean. The entire city of Reykjavik can also be seen through the 4 windows at the top. I love just to look out at the different parts of the city that I haven’t visited yet and find interesting buildings that I might want to go look at.

Power Cable

One day, we took a class trip to a geothermal power plant. We saw and learned about all the different processes and what happens specifically in each part. This was really helpful to see since we had read articles and were taught in class about how it works, but getting a visual of the plant and process solidified it in my head. In the plant, we also saw different parts of the machines, like one of the blades of a turbine, a cross section of the electrical cable, and a cross section of a pipe.

Another day, we went on an excursion to the Ocean Cluster. This is a building that houses many different companies working on sustainable fish products. We were able to experience the work atmosphere, very open and collaborative, and even tasted some of the products! I tried a fish oil pill, dried herring, pure herring oil, collagen lemonade, enzyme lotion, and lava cheese. Some of the products I didn’t like such as the dried herring, but others were great like the lava cheese which was basically just baked cheese. We also touched, smelled, and looked at other products like fish leather, fish skin wallets, fish skin bandages, and collagen powder. This was an interesting visit to learn about the business behind fisheries.
