Granada the walkable city.

Granada is a very walkable city. Especially because I live in the city center, and am only a 6 minute walk to class, I have had no issues with transportation. I walk every day to and from class, and pass through the center of town to get to the Center of Modern languages. It’s a nice walk, and I pass by small shops and cafes, perfect if I need to grab a coffee before or after class. Some friends of mine from my program live further, but I don’t know of anyone who lives more than a 25 minute walk from our school.

I often see people on bicycles, and although there is a bus system in Granada, walking seems like the most popular mode of transportation. My flatmate has a car, which we have used occasionally to go on short day trips, but parking and driving within the city is a nightmare. Granada was not built for cars and even the busses and taxis seem to have issues driving on the narrow cobblestone streets.

I have taken the ALSA bus line to Almunecar, Nerja, and Madrid, and busses are not expensive and are pretty comfortable. I have yet to take a local bus line, only because splitting taxis are so inexpensive, it ends up being about the same as a bus ticket.
