Weekend Getaways
I have traveled to nine different countries and have three more trips coming up in December. Every city was new to me, each with their own unique perks. It is difficult to choose my favorite one! I have had the opportunity to travel to such extent because of Norwegian, an airline which has extremely cheap flight prices. It is more expensive to travel within Norway than crossing country borders in Europe. Still, I was aware I could not come all the way over here and only visit Oslo! Norway has diverse geographical landscapes and forms part of the Arctic circle.
For day trips, without leaving Oslo, ferries are ideal. They are all free with your subway card! They are like mini cruises that take you through the inner fjords and drop you off in one of the many nearby islands. Each island is different, but they consist mostly of ancient ruins and touristy restaurants that are nice for a cup of coffee. You can spend half a day on one island, take a picnic along, and eat by the beach. It is also common to go “island hopping”, and only spend about an hour in each place! Then there are ferries in the afternoon and at night to take you back to Oslo, specifically to the beautiful Aker Brygge, where you can have dinner.
