Northeastern University is committed to offering scholarships and funding resources to eligible students participating in global programs.
These funding opportunities are awarded based on academic performance, financial need, or both. Please refer to the information below to browse various internal and external funding opportunities.
Internal Funding Resources
Each semester, the Global Experience Office (GEO) offers a limited number of grants to eligible Northeastern undergraduate students participating in a global program. Students looking to participate in a global experience should look into grant opportunities prior to the application deadline to that program.
Eligibility Requirements
All grant applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a Northeastern degree-seeking undergraduate student at the time of application
- Have an active application to a Northeastern-approved global program for that specific term

Application Requirements
Personal Statement
In 250 words, students will respond to the following questions:
- Where do you intend on studying abroad?
- What do you hope to gain by participating in a global experience?
- How does participation in this global experience relate to your academic, personal, and professional goals?
Diversity & Inclusion Statement
In 250 words, please describe how your identity (i.e. race, ethnicity, gender, religion, etc.) will come into play while abroad, contributing to Northeastern’s 2025 plan of building diverse and inclusive global networks.
Application Process
Students who wish to apply for a grant will need to complete the Scholarship questionnaire that is within their GEO application for a specific program.
Assessment & Selection
A selection committee will be assembled from various GEO team members to allow for diverse perspectives in the evaluation of applicants. Strong applicants will effectively align the goals for diversity and inclusion as it relates to their global experience. Preference will also be given to applicants who have demonstrated financial need at Northeastern.

In support of these goals, six (6) Aoun Scholars will be selected annually to receive $5,000 scholarships towards participation in a global experience.
SUCCESSFUL AOUN SCHOLAR CANDIDATES:
- Have a demonstrated record of campus community engagement with emphasis on equity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Have shown how their participation in global experiences will further inform their work.
- Are the bridge connecting local and global engagement.
Eligibility Requirements
All Aoun Scholar Applicants must be nominated by one of the campus centers/offices below. A nomination will consist of a form outlining the student’s involvement within the campus community. To nominate a student, please fill out the Aoun Scholarship Nomination Form.

Spring/ Summer 1
Once you have been nominated by a Northeastern office, you must complete the following:
- Community Involvement: (500 words, or a 5-minute video statement) Describe your involvement with the Northeastern community or other local communities.
- Engagement Component: (750 words, or a 10-minute video) Propose one of the following:
- How a global experience will contribute to your on-going campus or community work/projects (provide tangible examples of this); or
- What is a project with which you would like to utilize the skills and experiences gained from your global experience?
- This proposal is expected to evolve throughout your global experience. A representative from GEO will touch base with you mid- and post-program to work through the final iterations.
- Personal Statement: In 500 words, or a 5-minute video statement, applicants will respond to the following prompt: “How can a global experience contribute to my ability to be impactful in my community/the world?”
- Campus Engagement: Once selected, you may be invited to present your experience and subsequent work, as well as meet with campus leadership to further discuss the impact of your experience. If selected, you will be expected to engage with key stakeholders in the program before, during and after the program.

Preference will be given to students who have not previously participated in a global experience.

The Presidential Global Scholars Program supports outstanding students seeking to participate in a global co-op program and enables students to take advantage of all that a Northeastern education has to offer. Awards range from $1,000 to $6,000 for an approved global co-op, and help to offset expenses such as travel, meals, and housing. Recipients of the Presidential Global Scholarship will also be considered for the Presidential Global Fellowship. GEO collaborates with the Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships to administer some scholarships relating to study abroad experiences.
