Easy Going Days
My typical day in Granada is surprisingly easy-going. In the morning, I wake up and get ready for school, then head out on the fifteen-minute walk to school. On Tuesdays and Thursdays when my classes start at 11:30, I stop for a café con leche or a donut because I have a little extra time on those days. Classes go by fairly quickly, and I am done each day by 2:30 or earlier. Around three I enjoy a (usually delicious) lunch with my host mom and roommate. We eat and talk for about an hour, and I spend my afternoons reading, walking around the city, getting small errands done, or taking a siesta. We gather again for dinner around 9:00pm, and then I usually head to bed to watch Netflix and unwind. The weekdays often go by fairly quickly, and it’s the weekends that get really busy. I don’t have classes on Fridays, so a lot of times I spend a three-day weekend away visiting another city or I take one or two day trips to the beach or to go hiking. So far, I’ve had wonderful weekend trip within the country to Málaga, Nerja, Barcelona, and Sevilla, and I’ve also had the chance to go to Rome, Lagos (Portugal), and Paris. While the traveling is definitely tiring, I’ve found I’ve had a good amount of time in each city, and having Fridays off has really allowed me to see more of Europe. I like that my weekdays are relaxed (and even monotonous at times). It has been comforting to have a sense of normalcy, even when I am thousands of miles away from my comfort zone.
