Exploring Asian Identities
My courses are predominantly in the business school as I have double majors in Marketing and Supply Chain Management. This is why I am happy whenever I get the opportunity to take social science classes and to exercise the right side of my brain at school. On a weekly basis, I get to think critically about topics relating to identity in my favorite class at SMU, “Exploring Asian Identities”.
I am passionate and I feel genuine interest in this class because the topics are relevant and relatable. As a Chinese American, I would say that I am a blend of Chinese and American culture, and thus, my outlook is also a mix of values from both cultures. Growing up, I was never able to fully articulate how I saw the world through my lens and more importantly, myself. However, this class and the academic literature helped me organize and articulate my thoughts on topics such as diasporic identities, the idea of Asia, and so on. And needless to say, I am very happy and grateful for this course.
Speaking of classes, the most stressful time of every semester, finals and group projects/presentations, is right around the corner. Lately I have been retreating to my study spot for long hours. I only call it “my study spot” because I am a creature of habit when it comes to places to study. Every weekday (and sometimes weekends), one will most definitely see me on the fourth floor of SMU’s library near the windows for hours on end.
