Granada’s Active Lifestyle

Plaza de España in Sevilla

I’ve been lucky enough in my abroad experience to live in an extremely walkable city. Not only is it fairly compact, but EVERYONE walks here—it’s the norm, plus I’m used to walking around Boston, so it’s been an easy adjustment to Granada’s active lifestyle. It takes me about fifteen minutes to walk to my school, so I get in at least thirty minutes of walking every day. My usual destinations around the city (tapas bars, clothing stores, cafes, friends’ houses, etc.) are at closest five minutes away and at farthest about twenty minutes, so it’s been easy to get out and about.

So far I’ve only used public transportation once. Granada has two bus systems: one smaller bus for locations in the city center, and one larger bus for the outer perimeter. My friends and I were traveling to Sevilla (a city about 3 hours away), and so I had to take the larger bus out to the bus station. Public transportation is relatively inexpensive here, and as far as I know I’ll only have to use the bus system when I’m traveling outside of Granada. It is also easy to get around Spain, as there are many bus, train, and plane options. Busses run frequently between cities, to beach towns, to the Sierra Nevada mountains, and to various airports, so I really haven’t struggled to get around.
