It is almost always sunny

Plaza nueva 1

Granada, like most Spanish cities, has TONS of plazas scattered every couple of blocks throughout the city. My favorite is called “Plaza Nueva” and is situated at the base of Granada’s ancient Moorish neighborhood (el Albayzín). It’s almost always sunny, and from one of the many benches you can watch the street performers who are singing, dancing, juggling, etc. at almost all hours of the day. The Albayzín is home to Granada’s “hippy” population, so the Plaza is always full of young people as well. On a nice day, I’ll go there with a coffee, my iPhone, or a book and spend an hour or too in the sunshine.

In the six weeks I have been here, I have been able to travel both with my study abroad program, my school, and independently. My program (API) has taken us to Madrid, Toledo, and Rome, and later on in the semester we’ll be going to Alpujarras and Cádiz. With my friends, I have travelled to Sevilla, the Sierra Nevadas, and Nerja (a beach town), and in the future have plans to travel throughout Europe with the friends I’ve made in Spain as well as with friends from Northeastern! My school also puts on cultural and physical programming throughout the semester, and I went with them on a trip to Ronda. Professors accompany the group and act as tour guides, and it’s nice to get a more in-depth understanding of a city! They host trips to go rock climbing, hiking, and horseback riding, and well as guided excursions to other cities or specific areas in Granada. While the trip to Ronda was my first activity with my school, I’m hoping to go with them to a vineyard for a wine tasting as well as tour Granada’s cathedral and Capilla Real.
