Study Habits in Granada
I am halfway through my time in Granada, and it is flying by. I am already anticipating how much I will miss living here.
I just had midterms, which were actually pretty difficult. However, I am still enjoying my classes, even with exams, and feel like my Spanish is really improving. My most interesting class is my Early Spanish Literature course, which is taught in Spanish. My professor brought us to a Federico Garcia Lorca exhibit last week which was really interesting to bridge literature with visual art. We just finished studying a Spanish play from the 15th Century that Romeo & Juliet was based on, and it’s difficult and time consuming to try to not only understand the vocabulary, but also the greater messages and themes. However, it is also the most rewarding class and I feel so accomplished when I can fully analyze a passage. The literature course also includes the context of the work, which gives us a bit of a cultural and historical lesson as well, and helps us understand the author’s intent.
I do most of my homework in a cafe called La Qarmita. It has a library of books and wifi, which makes it a perfect setting for cozy studying. They have lots of gluten free options and soy milk, and since I have allergies, it’s really nice to find a place that is accommodating. I usually do some reading or bring my laptop and order a tea and can spend hours there without being bothered.
